Experience
I have had the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre company as well as having the experience of working backstage. I have performed at The Royal Albert and found it to be an amazing experience. I have been a costume and wardrobe assistant which consisted of helping the cast members get dressed and making sure there are no faults in their costumes. This also involves helping cast with quick changes and rectifying and costume errors which might occur during the show. This was very enjoyable to me as I am someone who likes different challenges being thrown in my directions, I had to make sure I was focused at all times because anything could happen and the show must go on. What's more I have helped backstage in the dressing rooms monitoring younger members of cast. My job was to make sure they stayed focus on the production they were about to perform. What helped me do this was having them in smaller groups and getting them to devise their own focus warm ups. I found that this was very effective and it is something I’ve used again and again.
Besides this I have also volunteered to do Front Of House at the theatre I was part of Chickenshed Theatre Company. I had to sell programmes and other merchandise, I had to make sure audience members got safely to their correct seats, and finally, I had the experience of being fire steward and assistant duty manager. My Front Of House experience overall made me appreciate that the people helping around the production are equally as imported as the performers. I was so used to being on stage it never occurred to me that there was just as much time and effort being put into backstage and Front Of House and that really we are all one big cast together.
One of my best experiences is delivering workshops to home educated children aged between 5-12 years old. This sparked a big interest in me, I loved the chanced to deliver my own work even though it one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done. Despite this I have gone on to deliver many, many workshops to all different types of people despite age of disability. I have performed to a paying audience since 2005.



Interests

My main interests are in performing, theatre and teaching. I am a very social person and enjoy helping others. I like planning activities and sessions which I can then deliver to people. As I have gained confidence I have become more interested in delivering performing arts and finding ways in which it can be integrated into children’s everyday learning. I am very interested in the way in which people learn from a younger age and feel that if there were more performing art techniques i.e. Singing, Dancing in school key lessons in schools it would broaden children’s imaginations and understanding. For example children learn the alphabet through song or rhyme which is picked up quite easily at a young age. Does this make it easier and more fun to learn? Also why can’t this technique me used in other subjects?
